About Naturmystikk

I´m a photographer from Arnhem, the Netherlands.

As of today, there are a lot of landscape photographers. It seems that the increase of better camera equipment brings forth a lot of nice pictures, also a lot of very much over edited pictures. With Naturmystikk I would like to focus on the natural world with natural looking pictures. Of course they will be processed in the editing tool Lightroom, but with just the minimal effects. I am a huge fan of the Nordics: Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland as well.

I am an extreme music listener myself, I used to organise concerts and festivals in the Metal Genre, especially Black Metal still is one of my favorite musical genres. This musical genre is very cold and harsh with beautiful compositions. Besides Black Metal I also listen to dark ambient and classical music a lot.

The main reason I started this photoblog in 2018 is because of friends, family and colleagues were asking to do something with my photos. Make them available to people so that they can take a look at them. Before I Started taking nature and Aurora pictures I was organizing a lot of atmospheric Black Metal and Ambient shows. I went out hiking in the Nordics to take pictures for inspiration, so that started the photography hobby...

Northern Lights: Natures Mysticism

The most magical Natural phenomenon I ever witnessed is the elusive Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis. In order to see it in it's best natural form I recommend going to see them in the equinox months, because statistically it has the most geomagnetic activity. When are the equinox months? In September/October and March.

Also the moon as a lot of influence on the pictures. Sometimes it fights with the Aurora when the light is interfering. Sometimes it is a great natural illuminator of the landscape (for instance in the snow the moon can be of great use).

Focus on the Nordics

As much as I love to listen to the soundtrack of Skyrim by Jeremy Soule, as I also love the landscapes created in the game. They can be found in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland but also in Canada, Alaska, Greenland, New Sealand for example. The first four countries I mentioned I have been every two or three times a year and feel like a second home. The other ones mentioned I definitely like to explore in the next couple of years.

My favorite area's in my favorite countries:

  • Norway
    • Senja
    • Lofoten
    • Lyngen Fjords
    • Jotunheimen
    • Jostedalsbreen
  • Finland
    • Pallas Yllästunturi National Park
  • Sweden
    • Abisko National Park
    • The nature around Jokkmokk
  • Iceland
    • Vatnajökull national park
    • Mýrdalsjökull, especially Thorsmork

Midnight Sun

Midnight Sun, how when where?

Around the summer solstice (approximately 21 June in the Northern Hemisphere and 23 December in the Southern Hemisphere), the Sun is visible for the full 24 hours, given fair weather. The number of days per year with potential midnight sun increases the closer towards either pole one goes. Although approximately defined by the polar circles, in practice the midnight sun can be seen as much as 90km outside the polar circle, as described below, and the exact latitudes of the farthest reaches of midnight sun depend on topography and vary slightly year-to-year.

Mountains

What is more beautiful then to hike the mountains? I don't know. For me it is the best form of both exercise and relaxation. Man should go out in nature more! That's the statement I would like to make. We humans are not born to live in big cities, working I glass office buildings. Yes, most people nowadays need to to that in order to make a living... but use that money for traveling instead of wasting it on materialism. Hiking stimulates creativity, mental health and helps to stay young.

I sometimes allow people to join the special Aurora hunting journey and yes, I go for the max with Geomagnetic and Weather nowcasting, get in contract if you are interested, we do have some requirements though!
